Installing 2nd Veeam server at DR site - clarification

Post by romwarrior »

I currently have Veeam installed only at our production site with only a proxy set up at our DR site. I would like to additionally install Veeam at our DR site to handle SureBackup jobs and manage failover type stuff. It appears I can't just install Veeam on the proxy server, so what is considered best practice for accomplishing this? Do I need separate Veeam and proxy servers at the DR site? Can they run together?

You can configure both instances to act as proxy servers for each other. Just keep in mind that the number of concurrent tasks assigned to each Veeam B&R's components (proxy and repository) is counted within the corresponding instance (so plan the load carefully).

Thanks. Are there any special considerations if the server on the DR side is already a WAN accelerator? Can I just install on top?

Yes, you can. As far as I remember, you can even make them WAN accelerators for each other as a single server can serve as a source WAN accelerator for one backup server and as target WAN accelerator for another.
