[MERGED] EMC Unity Platform Storage Integration ETA
Hi Guys,
I have a question mostly for the DEV team regarding the newly released EMC Unity platform. I was wondering if there is a timeline or ETA for support of this platform in regards to direct storage integration. The VNX and VNXe platforms are supported so I imagine Unity will be as well, I am just interested if anyone knows how long it will be. I have a deployment coming up that will most likely be using a Unity and Veeam B&R, storage integration sure would be nice to have.

Veeam Devs! Why are you adding/extending functionality to support little known vendors before sorting out support for the big 5: HP, DELL, EMC, IBM, NetApp.

Veeam is not able to backup NetApp CIFS snapmirrors; only VMs from what I can see.foggy wrote:Both are already supported as backup targets.

You've mentioned "Veeam Repos" in your initial request so I took it as you're talking about backing up to those. Apologies for that.kryptoem wrote:Veeam is not able to backup NetApp CIFS snapmirrors; only VMs from what I can see.

Re: PURE STORAGE Storage Snapshot intergration
Thank you for the request. Currently it is not planned. The next vendor will be Nimble Storage.

Re: Integration with Storage Snapshots : Vendor Roadmap
So still no IBM/SVC support in sight? That is kind of frustrating, given the market share of Nimble. Based on what criteria does Veeam choose a vendor? I'd expect that Veeam chooses a vendor based on how useful he is for their user base (wide distribution). Right now we are evaluating Veeam and a other product that comes with IBM SVC support. At the moment it is a show stopper for us that Veeam does not support SVC snapshots. Which also means that we wont buy 200+ socket licenses. Given the speed Veeam adds new vendors and the small list of vendors Veeam supports right now and without a clear roadmap, we can not hope that sometimes there might be support for our primary backup.

Yes, this is one of the criteria. Your vote for IBM support is also counted.pirx wrote:I'd expect that Veeam chooses a vendor based on how useful he is for their user base (wide distribution)

Re: Integration with Storage Snapshots : Vendor Roadmap
Absolutely correct. And Nimble is currently [by far] #1 TAP partner for Veeam in terms of influenced revenue (out of those vendors we still don't integrate with).pirx wrote:That is kind of frustrating, given the market share of Nimble. You mean there are more VM's runing on Nimble storage than on IBM?

Re: Integration with Storage Snapshots : Vendor Roadmap
No he does not mean that.
He is speaking about influenced revenue.
Nimble and the others who already are integrated with veeam, are teaming with Veeam to win deals, they promote Veeam's technology as an enhancer for their own products.

I'd expect that Veeam chooses a vendor based on how useful he is for their user base (wide distribution).
Then I get the feeling that it's not so important to Veeam which vendor is used by their customers. It's more important which vendors sponsors an integration. Given that IBM does have their own backup products I can imagine that the motivation to support another tool might not be so big. But it should be for Veeam.Nimble and the others who already are integrated with veeam, are teaming with Veeam to win deals, they promote Veeam's technology as an enhancer for their own products.

Re: Integration with Storage Snapshots : Vendor Roadmap
Storage integration is a partnership, Veeam can't just make it happen on an island. Requesting integration on this thread is how Veeam tracks how many customers are interested in integration with various storage vendors. Those requests are what they need for leverage with IBM, etc. to show them that it is worth it to their shared customer base for them to work together.

Re: Integration with Storage Snapshots : Vendor Roadmap
That is absolutely correct. But given that other backup programs support >20 storage vendors / array types, Veeam has to catch up fast. Maybe this is not so important for others but for us this currently is a show stopper. Our next backup tool renewal will be in 5 years so let's check this again then.

[MERGED] : Support for Hitachi storage
I would like to know if there are plans to or has been any considerations for Veeam to have integration with Hitachi storage? We're considering going with Hitachi and would love to have the storage snapshot integrations.
Thanks
