Is there a backup size limit?

Post by Mirija »

Hi there,
Still evaluating Veem backup&replication.

We have a file server that sum of all vmdk exceed 2Tb. Backup of this VM will produce near 2Tb file. Is this supported? (Target is on Windows NTFS volume), or can I split backup file into smaller piece?

This is supported, Windows NTFS has an extremely high file size limit.

I tried to backup the file server:
Total VM size: 4,98TB
Processed size 4,06TB
Processing rate: 19MB/s :? (SAN)
Time remaining 14:25:53

Vbk file: around 1,8Tb

Conclusion : seem backup is stuck when vbk file size approaching 2T.
I have to split file server in two or more server.

This has nothing to deal with Veeam, you just need to use a GPT disk on a Windows 2008 (you could use 2003 sp2) to get over that MBR limit of 2TB. I'm using several iSCSI GPT disks over 12TB each.
