Just a Thank You to Veeam
I just wanted to thank Veeam for their incessant dedication to making Veeam the most
rounded and open backup solution. I made the decision to switch to Veeam awhile back but little did I know
how important that single decision would be. Due to the Broadcom fiasco I would say most of us got backed
into a corner. Veeam has literally been our lifeline in a sea of crap. We have been piloting all of the
VMware replacement contenders and how amazing is it that we can backup a VMware guest, restore it on
Nutanix and bring it up withing a couple of hours and THEN move it again backing up the Nutanix VM and
porting it over to Proxmox. Insane, but it just works. This is true data freedom! Now as long as Veeam can survive
a takeover by an evil genius, all will be right with the world (at least in the realm of IT data mobility).
So a special thank you to the Veeam team and all of your employees that make the wheels turn.

On behalf of the whole Veeam team. Thank you so much for the feedback. It is always nice to hear positive feedback. We continue to go full throttle on product innovation and invest even more into R&D to ensure customer success.

@tgx is 100% right.
I rarely endorse/recommend any vendor, but Veeam is always the exception. Every time I had the need to explain other C-level executives what makes Veeam unique, I always say "It JUST works, every time".

Yeah I was thinking the same thing recently. Just how good Veeam is, I came to Veeam from the Backup Exec days when that product was a hot potatoe. Now imagine having flaky on-prem software AND having unreliable backup and recovery software.
Very thankful for Veeam.

I also totally agree - astonishing development since the beginning of our cooperation with Veeam as a early adopter. I remember we are using Veeam since they has develop SQL Backup possibilities ( before they start with others like Rman Oracle and the massive bunch of other possibilities until now ). We were looking at this time for a substitute for EMC ( Legato ) and Veeam was a great leap forward against great odds.

I started with veeam in 2009 and I have never regretted it.
Things became of course more difficult, but I never felt left alone with any issues - self made or not.
Thank You!

Totally agree.
We had so many non-standard-migration-projects where we just ended in: "You know what? We do it with Veeam, it just works"

Re: Just a Thank You to Veeam
I 2nd that. Been onboard since 2014, unfortunately someone decided to move to another product in-between but we are back in full force and Veeam B&R was always on my side during 2014, allthough another product was used in production.
Let's hope no one from Broadcom decides to buy Veeam or a Veeam stake, that would be a nightmare!
Regards,
Didi7

Using the most recent Veeam B&R in many different environments now and counting!

Re: Just a Thank You to Veeam
Veeam Backup and REPLICATION saved our lives after the NotPetya attack.
ALL virtual servers were encrypted but it did not affect the Veeam replicas.
We simply brought the replicas up and everything was working again!
Thanks Veeam !!

Goodness, wouldn't it! Although to give Broadcom a little bit of credit, they have made VMware Workstation free. I tend to work with smaller companies and the community edition is a life saver. Three of those smaller companies grew and now license Veeam so the model does work.
It's a testament to Veeam that I have to visit this often so infrequently.

Re: Just a Thank You to Veeam
I've been using Veeam since V6 and up until starting my newest job last year I was always at least partly responsible for backups. Veeam just made not only backups easy, but other things as well. Being able to spin up a lab based off of backups to PoC something was the bees knees. I'm not responsible for backups at the new place, but have access in case things need restored. Not going to name the solution, but I'm going to bet most people have heard of it and it's not nearly as intuitive or fun to use. I still use the Community Edition at home so I can sort of keep up with the changes, in case I ever end up back at a shop that uses it.

For friends, I also recommend using the free agent to backup their PCs to external hard drives if they don't have cloud storage. Some don't trust cloud storage either so backup to local disk as well.
