Hi All,
I have a server with several large drives. The server has dedup enable. The local backup of that 19TB drive are working fine as far as I can tell.
However, I am not able to get a backup copy to work properly due to backup size are often over 100GB on said drive.
I highly doubt it that user actually put in over 100GB every day.
Wondering if anyone has any idea on how to tackle this issue. I opened a ticket with support in the past and they said it's normal which I don't think it is.
Thank you in advance on any idea and possible solution

Re: Large incremental for backup copy job for dedup drive
Hello,
Please keep in mind that image based VM backup is block based backup. It is not relevant how many files change. It is relevant how many blocks change. Deduplication runs change many blocks... that's why Windows deduplication is not recommended for VMs that you backup with image / block based backup (no matter which backup software)
Best regards,
Hannes
you mean you use windows deduplication inside the VM?The server has dedup enable
yes, it's normal.I opened a ticket with support in the past and they said it's normal

Re: Large incremental for backup copy job for dedup drive
Hi Hannes,
Thank you for your prompt reply. Yes the VM has dedup enable.
Please bare with me on this. So even when I have separate jobs for each drive, it would still be image/block based backup?
If that's the case, the optimal solution would be to disable the dedup if I ever want to offsite going then?
Regards,
Kemtis
