Licensing question

Currently using Backup Essentials Enterprise 6 socket. We have less than 50 VM's currently being backed up, so if we wanted to move to VUL, we would migrate to Backup Essentials Universal. If midway through our license we are required to backup more than 50VMs, say we moved from 50 to 52, would one have to change to Backup & Replication Universal Subscription license and how are the new licensing costs calculated?

With VUL you can exceed the license by 10 or 10% (whichever number is bigger). On 5/5%, you get a weekly message that you are no longer compliant and if you exceed the license by 10 or 10%, veeam will stop protection new workloads. This should also be valid for the Essential License.
For the other question, it's best to get in contact with your Veeam sales representatives and ask them about the process and prices. They also can confirm that you can exceed a VULlicenses.
