Linux FLR with Enterprise Mangager

Post by ics »

Hi all,

I have v9 allready installed and make some test with Linux FLR and there is one thing I dont understand.
Veeam Backup Server is installed in the HQ and we have two remote office with her own vsphere esxi server, Veeam repository and proxy!
The remote locations are connected via 4MBit WAN!

So I first use the new standalone console for Linux FLR. The wizard ask for configure an target esxi server, network and so on...
I pick a host and VM that reside in the HQ for restore. The FLR VM starts and all works fine...

Now I try the Enterprise Manager Webinterface. I go to File restore and this time I pick a VM that reside on a remtote location!
I click Mount Backup and now here comes my problem. The setting I used befor in the console are used.
The esxi hosts in the HQ mounts the vpower nfs from the remote proxy/repository and start the FLR VM over the slow WAN connection.
I cannot chose a different one the reside also in the remote office.

Is this worked as designed?

thx and br

Yes, this is by design. Settings used during FLR performed from console are re-used by Enterprise Manager. Currently you cannot specify different settings in Enterprise Manager.

Hi foggy,

thx for answer.
So I am right that this is an performance issue if the FLR VM is startet across the WAN?

Does the new Mount Server change the behavior, or ist that not for Linux FLR?

During my test there is no change. Configure all Repo also as Mount Server,
but FLR still start on HQ esxi server!?

thx

Mount server is not that important for Linux FLR, it is used just to copy appliance files to the host, while actual disks from backup are mounted to the appliance VM. So location of the host where appliance resides is much more important.

Can this be a feature request?

We want use Linux Fileindexing.
If I have local ressources on remote location, I want use it for backup and restore!
For Index/Indexsearch and then restore files you need the Enterprise Manager.

But with wrong FLR configuration I can not be sure, that only local ressources are used!

A second point.

We use Linux with LVM and Novell OES (SLES) with NSS Volumes.

If the "Restore from NSS" not checkt in the FLR config, there is no chance to restore NSS Files with Enterprise Manager.
The restore failed and the Operator dont know why!

Yes, this is expected due to the same reason - you need to run through the wizard at least once and specify all the settings for EM to be able to perform FLR using them.
