Linux Hardened Repo

Post by jmerfeld »

I just setup a Linux Repo, with Immutably turned on to keep backups locked for 15 days or so. We are using the backup copy job to copy the job to the repo, but what i have been reading is that since our original backup job is reverse incremental, the files on the Linux Repo are not getting locked for deletion? I set the retention policy for the copy job for 30 days, and keep certain full backups longer for 5 weekly, and 2 monthly. Does that mean that the Increments could be deleted?

Reversed incremental backup mode continuously updates the latest full backup, which makes it impossible to make it immutable. Only forward incremental backup mode with periodic synthetic or active fulls is compatible, because only with that backup files are never touched again after they have been created.

However, V11 Backup Copy jobs fit these requirements. And backup mode you're using for the primary/source backup job makes no difference, since Backup Copy jobs don't just literally copy backup files, but rather create them anew.

Thanks!
