Log shipping files location
Hi,
When you choose to backups the (SQL) logs in your Veeam job, you have to select a log shipping server.
Could you tell me in what directory of the repository, Veeam will copy those logs please ?
Thanks.
Eric

They will be saved into the same folder created by the Backup Job. If your job is called "SQL servers" it will be on the repo in the folder "SQL servers".

Hi Niels,
Thanks for your reply.
I chose a different server/Repository so the VM backup files shouldn't be in the same folder as the log shipping files. When I look in the repository I chose for the logs, there's no folder names after the job name....
Thanks for your reply.

Re: Log shipping files location
Hi,
There should be no nested folder in your backup folder - log backups have .vlb extension and are kept in the same folder where your VM backups reside. The absence of .vlb files would mean that no logs have been backed up.
Thank you.

Eric, if you're asking about the temporary location of transaction logs backups on the shipping server itself, then they are stored in the C:\Windows\Temp folder.

To be more precise, I believe we are using whatever location %TEMP% system environment variable points to, which by default is C:\Windows\Temp.

By redirecting %TEMP% to another location.

Re: Log shipping files location
Does this also apply to the Hyper-V host that is becoming the log-shipping server when PS direct is used to ship logs?
Thanx,
Mike

Re: Log shipping files location
Hi Mike, the current logic is to place the logs on the disk with the largest amount of free space available.

...which works for the log shipping server but not for the Hyper-V host itself. In the case of Hyper-V, the logs are first copied to the host after being retrieved via PS direct and then to the log shipping server, if specified. On the host, they are currently stored in the ADMIN$ share - we will consider applying the space estimation logic to the Hyper-V host as well.

Re: Log shipping files location
If E: would have the largest amount of free space. Would it then be E:\Temp\ where log shipping server would locally place the temporary files? Is it possible to set this with a regkey? As you can on the MS SQL server with the "SqlTempLogPath" regkey.

Hi Maso,
Yes, E: will be selected. I think that the regkey exists but I need to have some time to look for it. If my assumption about regkey is correct, I'll update the topic.
Thanks!

@masonit
You may try this registry key on the log shipping server: TempPathDir (in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Backup and Replication)
Thanks!
