Long-term Archiving

Post by frenaud »

What is the best/easiest way to archive backups? For example:

Main backup repository = 10TB
2nd backup repository = 20TB
Daily reverse incremental backups with monthly active full backups, all sent to main repository. The retention policy is set to about 100 restore points (no GFS policy). We would like to transfer restore points that are about to be removed (or at least older full backups) to the 2nd backup repository.

Backup copy jobs don't seem to be the proper way of doing this, since they copy all recent restore points.

We could manually copy/paste the full backups once a month between the 2 repositories, but we would prefer an automated solution.

Hello,

I would opt for a backup copy job anyway as it allows you to respect 3-2-1 rule and GFS retention policy helps to meet long-term archiving requirements.

I guess that Move policy might be interesting for you as it allows offloading backups which age out of the operational restore window but in this case you will need to configure Scale-Out Backup Repository and Capacity Tier.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, scale-out storage is not available to us as our only connection is through a low-speed satellite link.

In theory, you can have just a single extent on the Performance Tier and add an object storage for the Capacity Tier.

Thanks!
