Hi Handian

Azure File Share as a repository is a bad choice performance-wise.
If used as a NFS or SMB repository, the gateway server should be as near as possible to the file share. The gateway server needs to read and write data to the file share. Read happens when you are doing synthetic full or health checks. This may be a reason why you see poor performance. It's not just uploading data, from time to time your gateway server also has to download data when a backup copy jobs run.

Microsoft also do not promise 100 Mbps for their Azure File Share service. Currently it's around 55 Mbit/s.
You may check the limits here:

I suggest to take a look at Azure Blob as your Backup Copy Target. Our upcoming release will allow you to use immutability with Azure Blob.
You will have a lot better performance than with Azure File Shares.

Best,
