Machines over 2TB ESX and replication

Post by slidek9 »

Hello,

I have a machine whos disks add up to more than 3TB (mutiple disks) Vmware only lets the maximum size of 2TB per lun. The Veeam replication option only allows one single disk as replication target - how can I replicate this machine to the DR site?

Hello Leon, unfortunately it is impossible to replicate such machines right now. We are looking to add this feature in the next release. Thanks!

No - we only added this feature to backup. Adding it to replication appeared more complex, and since this feature was not planned for v5 originally, development was not able to implement given the release timeframes. Thanks!

Ok cool, with the forward incremental and instant on, the backup is better for us then replica.

I have been trying to get this mutiple disk target working but cannot point the option, could you let me know what buttons to press here please!

There is a hyper-link in Restore wizard under the UI control where you select datastore to restore VM to (only avaialble if VM has multiple disks).

Ulrich, this functionality should make to v6 release (Q4 this year). As a workaround for now you may want to use LUN extents. Thanks.

Hello Vitaly,

LUN extends in the targets works, i have changed the design to 2TB sources and 4TB target Datastores . In my actual project is this the solution. But the Datastore at customes Site grows and i am seraching for a Solution with local Storage without expensive replication with SAN.

Thanks

Ulrich
