Many .ARC files in logdirectory

Hello,
software: Veeam B&R
Version: 10.0.0.4461 p1

I have hundreds of "0e897788__Svc.VeeamBackup.X.arc" files with around 10 MB per file
in %programdata%\Veeam\Backup.
The files are generated nearly every minute!!!
Can the files be safely deleted?
Is this a normal behaviour?

Hi Mario,

These files are created by the antivirus software running on this machine. Quick Google search says that these files belong to Norton Antivirus. Please follow the instructions from this KB article to fix the issue.

thanks for your reply, but i have no Norton antivirus or any other third party AV installed on the Server.
Windows defender realtime protection is disabled and only quickscan is active.
However i have added the folders to the windows defender exclusion list and will monitor the folders if the files are created or not.

Veeam does not create these files, so it must be something related to the 3rd party. It would be highly appreciated if you could update this topic with your findings after configuring the exclusion list. Thanks!

it seems that after configuring the exclusion list the files are not created anymore.
Althoug the realtime Scan was disabled adding the directories to the exclusion list helped.
Maybe the Quickscan feature interfered somehow...

Yes, apparently I was wrong with my original reply (sorry for that). Under certain conditions, Veeam indeed does temporarily create .arc files, so this an expected behavior. Feel free to add these files to the exclusion list of your antivirus. Thanks!

I'm seeing approx. 30GB of .arc files in my Veeam Backup ProgramFiles folder, the current ones are all from 4 days a month ago (4 Jan - 8 Jan). Is this expected?

Can I delete them or will Veeam clean them up or are they part of the backup process? (We have jobs running once a day and every 4 hours)

These files should be automatically cleaned up. If you don't see that happening, it's better to contact our support team and verify why these log files are not cleaned up. Deleting these files manually should not affect anything within the product.

This still appears to be a problem in v12.

All our backup jobs failed overnight. VBR server unable to write temp data to C:\ drive, disk is full. More than 100GB of .arc files created in the last 96 hours.

That would be the right thing to do. Based on 1 post in 2.5 years it is highly unlikely this is some generic product issue, most likely this is something environment-specific.

Same here, alerts for disk almost full. 26GB of arc files from 2022 to now. So seems this problem is here since a long time.

I'll manually delete them but pretty sure they are not cleaning themselves.

Same issues after upgrading to v12. And the overall performance of the VBR server is awful. We have a/v exclusions in place as the KB article talks about but it is not making a difference

I had the same issue but I discoved that I had forgotten to remove one of the extended debug logging registry keys (RTSDetailedLogging) from an old case.
After removing the key, extensive generation of ARC files stopped.
