Merging oldest restore point into full backup file

Post by jsnmllr »

We are getting "Merging oldest restore point into full backup file" when running a backup job from a clients site to our repository with Cloud Connect, If I run an Active Full and that finishes, am I safe to remove the old restore points, as this Active full should be the same as the synthetic full, correct?

Hi Jason, you can remove older part of the chain after successful active full without affecting future job runs, correct. However, could you please clarify what you're trying to achieve?

Our current backup copy job has a lot of old restore point and the job is failing on merging the old restore points. This was due to the job not finishing, we have since made modifications to the job and it is now finishing properly but it is still failing on merging the restore points. So I was thinking if I ran an active full and remove the old restore points, going forward the synthetic full and the merging will start working.

Thanks for clarification. Yes, active full should work for you then.
