Migrate data from one SOBR to another...

Post by SyNtAxx »

I know the manual says start a new backup chain in the new target. What do you do if that is not feasible? Is there a method to move the data/chains to a new target?

One quick answer: you have to copy the data (repository folder) from the old target to the new target.

You can do that with robocopy or, as i would do, with Teracopy, a powerfull an free tool to copy data from A to B fast and reliable.

Please be aware that in the meantime as long as you are copying the data you can't run backup jobs, at least it was my experience.

And don't forget to add the new target as repository, if not already done.

Thanks, I decided to use this approach instead. I added some extents from the intended target to the existing SOBR and place the extents on the device I wish to offload in maintenance mode. Then use the evacuate feature and let veeam handle the details of the file movements. it is going to take a while. I'm not sure if this method will allow for backups to continue though. Time will tell.

Yes, this method will allow backups to continue.

Both my evacuations failed. I assume this is not normal or expected behavior.

Multiples of the following, just different *filename*.vib or vbk

Code: Select all

02/17/2016 8:44:53 AM Error Failed to get storage file *filename*.vm-66872016-02-09T200150.vib'

I'd try doing it extent by extent, not putting all the extents into maintenance mode simultaneously.

I did not put all extents into maintenance mode.

Anyway, you'd better let our engineers take a look at the log files, to see what went wrong during evacuation process.

It is entirely true, but of course backup evacuation must complete successfully first :D whereas the error means that it did not. Clearly, some extents which are in maintenance mode still store previous backup files.
