Migrate SOBR-extents from CIFS to Windows Server
Hi
What is the best way to migrate a scale-out extents type from CIFS to Windows Server? I understand that we cannot change the type of an existing repo/extent, maybe it's possible to just create the new extent and do a rescan?
Thanks in advance

Hi Sand,
You can add Windows server repository to the SOBR as a new extent, then put CIFS extents in maintenance mode and use Evacuating Backups from Extents. Thanks!

Re: Migrate SOBR-extents from CIFS to Windows Server
Thanks, will the evacuating backups process realize that the data is already there?
To be clear, the CIFS extent is already on the windows server - so we don't actually need to move any data. We just would like to change the repo type because it is recommendet to use Windows Server Repos instead of CIFS.

Re: Migrate SOBR-extents from CIFS to Windows Server
I've discussed the scenario with the QA team and here is the steps to follow:
1. Add the new repository as extent of SOBR.
2. Remove CIFS extent from the SOBR and confirm that you want to remove extent without evacuation (the window with the question will pop up).
3. Manually initiate rescan.
Jobs are already targeting the SOBR, so you don't need to re-map backups. Thanks!

Thanks a lot! I am correct in the assumption that a windows server type repository is superior to cifs type repos?
