Migrating to new server and changing datastore letters

Post by BertM »

Hey all,

I've done both of these before, but not at the same time (and didn't find this specific scenario searching around). I need to migrate my v9.5 server to a new server (both are physical), but my previous server had two volumes (D: and E:) and my new server only has one (D:).

I've migrated servers before, and I've migrated backup jobs to new repos. Can I just combine the two like below?

1. Migrate server (following KB1889, except I'm not moving DB, so just install and point to existing DB)
2. Copy backup files from old server D: and E: to new server D:
3. Edit the jobs that used to go to E: to point to the new repo on D:

Thanks,
Bert

Hi Bert,
Sounds good, just make sure to Rescan repository after backup files are copied and use Map Backup to continue backup chain at the new destination.
/Cheers!

Thanks, Egor!

Quick follow up, can I just install v10, or should I install v9.5 and upgrade to v10?

You can backup v9.5 configuration, install fresh v10, and import the configuration there.
