Re: Migration
Hi Hakan
Welcome to the forum.
We have a guide on how to migrate a VBR server to a new machine. The recommended way is to use our configuration backup to migrate the entire configuration.
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110
May I ask, what backup repository you have in use? The migration process for the backup data depends on the used repository type.
Thanks
Fabian

Re: Migration
Hi Fabian,
I read the guide. This will help me.
Will my old backups be transferred to the new server with this method?
I using direct attached storage as backup repository.
Thanks for your helping.

Re: Migration
Hi Hakan
You‘re welcome.
No, backups will not be transferred. Just the configuration.
Does the new virtual backup server run on the same hardware as your production VMs? The backup storage should not be a virtual disk inside the same infrastructure you have to protect.
Thanks
Fabian
Thanks

May I ask, what your new backup storage will be? You can’t connect a direct attached storage to the new vm. Without a new physical backup storage (NAS, Server), you would have to copy the backup data to a virtual disk.I using direct attached storage as backup repository.

Re: Migration
Hi Fabian,
We can connect the disk on the old physical server to the new virtual server. This is the info I got from the virtualization team.
The new virtual server is independent of the production environment.
Thanks.

Re: Migration
Hi Hakan
If the virtual backup server runs on another hypervisor as your production environment, then it seems ok to me.
Just don't have the backup files and backup server on the same hypervisor as your production machines. That will give you less protection against hardware failure or attacks against the hypervisor. Also think about a second backup copy which is immutable or airgapped, in case you don't have one implemented already.
For the data migration question, after you have reconnected the storage with the new VBR server, you have to add it as a new backup repository and remap the backup jobs. We have a KB article for that process
