Monthly full backups with Data Domain

I'm trying to schedule monthly full backups while using a Data Domain repository. Our policy is to keep 2 months (60 restore points) retention. When I try to configure this job I get the message "Current schedule may result incremental backups chain that is longer than 60 restore points, which is not supported with DataDomain repository. Consider scheduling full backups more frequently." With the monthly full backup I shouldn't have an incremental chain longer than 30 or 31 days, not 60. Maybe I'm not understanding this message correctly? I need to stay with the monthly full backups. We just don't have the space to store weekly fulls.

If you are using forward incremental mode, then you will definitely come up with more then 60 restore points with these settings. You should reconsider your retention settings or change the backup method, if applicable.

It is a hard limitation on the Data Domain side (has to deal with the max amount of open files during a restore process).

Also, haven't you thought about switching to forward forever incremental mode? With that mode VB&R preserves the exact number of restore points that is defined in the job retention settings.

I've been reading about the forward forever incremental and this sounds like it could be the way to go. Any big issues I would run into with having one full backup and 60 restore points?

No issues should appear with it. For recoverability testing you can also use SureBackup on primary storage.
