Move backup files to a new repository path
Hi,
What is the best way to move my existing backup files to a new repository path? I am going to replace my existing backup repository path with 25TB of backup files to a new repository path on the same repository server. How can I move this and still be able to run my backup? This is worth 25TB of backup files and it won't be moved in just a few hours. So what is the best way to move it to a new repository path but still be able to run my existing backup jobs?
Thanks,

Re: Move backup files to a new repository path
Hello,
https://www.veeam.com/kb1729 describes how to move backup files and how to reconfigure the jobs if the path changed.
Best regards,
Hannes

you mean moving and doing backup at the same time? Or just continue with the existing backup jobs after the move was successful? The latter is described in KB1729but still be able to run my existing backup jobs?
Best regards,
Hannes

Re: Move backup files to a new repository path
Hi @storageguy,
Just to add - I believe the scenario A is what you need.
So you can move all files to the new repository, check if the new restore points were created while you were copying data, copy the remaining files (if needed) and then switch your job to the new repository. Switching the job should be quite fast.
If you forget to copy something, you'll be warned about it:

Thanks!Note: If you encounter the following error: “Move all backup files to the new backup repository first”, some restore points the software was expecting to find were not found in the new repository. Cancel out of the job configuration and check both the old repository location and the new location to verify that all restore points have been moved. Then return to step 3 again.

Re: Move backup files to a new repository path
Hi,
So am I correct to say that i have to wait for my backup files to finish copying from old repository to new repository before I can run my backup jobs again?
If I have 25TB of backup files, it may take a full day or more to finish copying to the new repository. Then during this time I can't run my backup jobs because it is still pointing to the old repository, right?
Thanks

Re: Move backup files to a new repository path
Hi,
not exactly.
For example, you are copying the old files (everything except today's backups) to the new repository; jobs can be run at this time.
When you finish with copying, the most of the files is already copied and now you have some "delta" to copy to the new repository - the files which are created today. I believe this "delta" would take much less time to copy and would help you to minimize the time without backup jobs running.
Thanks!

I think now I understand what you meant. I'll try this and I'll let you know how it goes.
