Move backup older than - with standard repositories
hello all,
when I create a SOBR, I can select an object storage at "Capacity Tier". But now I want to use another normal repository here e.g. a NAS. It is about the function that I can decide after how many days I would like to move the backups to e.g. the said NAS.
what do I have for a possibility to use this function without object storage?
thx
jeff

Hi jmc
Capacity tier is object storage only.
I suggest you use backup copy jobs to copy files to the NAS system.
Your Copy Jobs can have a longer retention than your source backup jobs.
That should give you the same result as capacity tier with "move/copy" policy enabled.
Best,
Fabian

Re: Move backup older than - with standard repositories
hello fabian,
unfortunately the backup copy does not work. in case of an extended retention i would have the new backups on the nas as well. now i have 40 tb backup for 14 days on the performance tier and if i want to have another 14 days that would be 80 tb. that would be 40 tb wasted since i already have them.
so unfortunately this is not a suitable way.
thanks
jeff

Hi Jeff
How are you using the NAS? NFS or SMB Share?
If the NAS is connected per iSCSI to a Linux or windows server and the file system is XFS or reFS, you will be able to use FastClone. With FastClone, Full Backups won't use their entire space. Instead of 80TB, you still only use 40TB.
Best,
Fabian

Re: Move backup older than - with standard repositories
hello fabian,
no, the nas is directly connected to the backup server via smb.
therefore only a powershell variant remains, which moves old backups of a repository to the nas.
i will see what is available.
maybe there is also a program that emulates an s3 object storage on a drive.
but thanks
jeff

Hi Jeff
Depending on the NAS you use, maybe there is an option to use it as object storage.
As an example, QNAP has QuObjects:

Just as a note, consumer NAS devices may not provide good performance with such a configuration.
Best,
Fabian
