Move Veeam9 software and database

Post by TroyResources »

Hi Everyone,

Recently it has been under consideration to migrate the old physical backup server HP DL380 G5 late 2007  to a VM (thus flexability over RAM and CPU)

Our case is the older physical server had upgrades to 24 GB RAM; 10GbE Dual Port network card and QLogic Fibre Channel direct into fibre SAN.
This old workhorse is working fine and we process most jobs in under 15 minutes (so why fix it if it's not broken; apart from the fact its now very old)

Searched through few posts here and reviewed this article https://www.veeam.com/kb1889

I'm reaching out to readers here to see if you've been is same boat and what gotchas have you faced.

The KB article pretty much says it all. You need to perform configuration backup and then import it to your new virtual installation of Veeam B&R. Then make sure all the proxies, repositories, etc. are visible/correctly configured within the new console.

Honestly, you will likely be one of the first to perform this operation on v9... remember that we released v9 less than a month ago ;)
The good news is that you can simply scrap the new installation if something does not work, and continue using the existing one.
