Move VMs from one job to another without copying data

Post by rafaelm »

Hello!

I would like to know if there is a method to move VMs from one job to another, both in the same repository, without having to copy the data again, after all, they are in the same repository (move vs copy).

Info:
Version: Veeam Backup and Replication 12 Enteprise - Build 12.0.0.1420 P20230718
OS: Windows Server Standard 2022.
Repository: Scale out - PT: Local spinning rust RAID NTFS Storage with Deduplication enabled (imagine how long it takes to copy multi-terabyte data from one job to another), CT: Remote Zadara Object Storage.

Hi Rafael

Yes, this is possible in V12.1. If both jobs are on the same volume, backups will be moved instead of copied.

What's New guide - Page 11
Move backup improvements — VeeaMover will now detect if both source and target backup
repositories reside on the same storage volume, in which case it will leverage native file system
functionality for near-instant data movement
Please note: We don't move backups in your capacity tier.
When you move machine backups between jobs on the performance tier, those backups in the capacity tier will be moved to the orphaned node.
The moved backups will be re-offloaded with the new job. Keep that in mind when moving machines to new jobs in a SOBR with a capacity tier.

Best,

Thank you very much!
I'm going to upgrade right now and test the new functionality.
