Moving a backup chain

Post by perjonsson1960 »

Folks,

Let's say that we have an existing backup job with 20 VMs and a retention of 14 days. And now I want to extend the retention to 30 days for ONE of the VMs in the job. So I create a new job for that VM only, and set the retention to 30 days there.

My question, is there a way to "pull out" the backup chain for that VM from the old job and put it in the folder of the new job, and continue the backup chain in the new job, and thus keeping the existing 14 days and continue with day 15, so to speak? Or do I have to move the files to a different location, and import them if I need to restore from those 14 days of backup?

Kind regards,
PJ

Hello,
Let's say you have some time to wait until V12 release and I told you, that there is a button for that... would that help? :-)

Best regards,
Hannes

I like to press buttons! ;-)
That depends on when V12 is released... ;-)
So there is no way to do this in V11 using a more manual approach, like moving files and perhaps pressing more than one button, and some left- or rightclicking or clicking on links? ;-)

it's planned to be released soon (Q1) :-)

No, because of metadata handling, it's a new full backup in V11.
