Moving from VBR Essentials Enterprise to Community Edition
Appreciate your advice:
We are very small installation [2 x VMs] and hence are moving from VBR Essentials Edition to the Community Edition.
Our previous VBR Essentials subscription has ended and we are running in grace period.
Do we need to perform a full de-install of VBR Essentials and then fresh install of Community Edition?
Is there a migration or "downgrade" procedure we need to follow?
We don't have a very long retention period for our backups [couple of weeks only] - any way, will we be able to restore previous backups from essentials with the Community Edition? Regular file backups, no special integrations etc.
thank you for your recommendations. Regards!
Mauricio

Re: Moving from VBR Essentials Enterprise to Community Edition
Hi Mauricio,
Welcome to Veeam Community Forums and thanks for posting!
Сould you please clarify what B&R version is currently in use?
Please note that B&R Community Edition offers the same capabilities as B&R Standard Edition, thus it may be a loss in capabilities since you use Enterprise Edition.
Thanks

As I can see internally, you're on Standard license, so you won't loose any features after downgrade. Once your license expires, you will be asked to switch to Community Edition.
You can also switch to Community Edition by removing this registry key.
And answering your question, yes, you will be able to restore from previous restore points using Community Edition.
Thanks!

Re: Moving from VBR Essentials Enterprise to Community Edition
I am puzzled why Veeam representatives keep stating that the Community Edition has the same feature set as the Standard version. This is simply not true.
The Community Edition does NOT support backing up or replicating server data to Cloud Connect repositories. This is misleading and should be corrected.
I hear that Veeam is committed to their partners success so I am not sure why this functionality is not included as it would be a great revenue stream for their Cloud Connect partners. Not to mention Veeam would also benefit as they would get a cut of the Cloud Connect licensing.
Please stop stating Community and Standard Edition functionality are the same or better yet add the Cloud Connect functionality to the Community Edition.

Agree, need to stop saying that. Guys, let's just link the edition comparison when answering this question going forward. Thanks!
