Moving veeam to 2012 R2 server
Hello,
We are VMWare environment but were just approved licencing for Server 2012 R2 Datacenter, so I installed this today to our KMS server and created a template. Long story short we are going to slowly migrate VM's from 2003 / 2008 / etc.. to 2012 R2 as time permits. One of the low hanging fruits out there is our Veeam virtual machine. Currently its just a 2008 R2 guest. Can I just rename the current server to veeam-old and join the new server to the domain as veeam, install veeam v 8 and the latest patch, then import my configuration, then power down the old VM? Is it just that easy?
Thank you!

What VB&R version you're using now? Thanks.

8 with patch 1 installed.
I went ahead and gave this a shot. It worked.
The only difference is on the new install last nights backup sent the "retries" as a desperate email, instead of in one email. But maybe that's the way version 8 does it now if there is a failure with vsscontrol timeout.
44 out of 45 backups went successful last night with this migration.
We just have to schedule time to reboot the one problem vm to hopefully clear its VSS.

I was asking, because configuration import might not necessarily work between specific product versions. Anyway, you're good to go.
As to notification problem, it stands to reason to suppress notifications until the last retry.
Thanks.

Thank you! I made that change and that should quiet the emails a bit when there are retries.
Happy New Year!

Yes, we’ve introduced granular job notification in version 8, using which you can now manage emails on job level. Thanks.
