Moving Veeam to another server - need license?

Hi all - I have a client running Veeam on a physical box and they're decommissioning the hardware and so it's going to a VM. However, there is a validation process for the VM build and so it may take a week or two to "test" Veeam. P2V isn't an option because of all the other whackiness that was installed to the physical server originally. Is there a migration license that can be used or will the existing licenses work alongside the existing physical build?

I should also specify - there is no replication being used, just backup. The vCenter will be common during the testing.

If the new instance will use the same hosts as source for the backup jobs, the same license can be used.

My 2 cents: You can just make configuration backup and restore it in the new instance of Veeam B&R with the same license. Thanks!

Do you know if there is any formal document saying so? They're super cautious with licensing (rightfully so) but also super formal with testing and validation. Caught between a rock and a hard place.

I would, and I probably can do that once confirmed that the build is accepted for production. But first, I need to stand up a VM in parallel and do validation documentation showing backup/restore/config.

We have acquired a better backup server and we would like to transfer the Veeam Backup & Replication license to the new one (note: we will decommission the old one).
The license covers backing up an ESXi 6.5, which is a main production server (this remains unchanged).
What are the correct steps to transfer the current Veeam Backup & Replication license to a new server ?

Hey Borg,

You can install as many backup server instances as you need, as long as the license key covers the entire virtual infrastructure.
Please use configuration backup in order to transfer all the settings\jobs into the new instance and install the same license. Thanks!

Currently the backup is saved on a Windows Server.
The new backup server is also a Windows Server.
So practically, the 1st step would be to install on the new server Veeam Backup & Replication.
But then how to I transfer the saved data from old one to the new one ?

If you mean the backup files in the repository, then you should copy them to the new repository and initiate rescan. Thanks!
