[VHRISO] multiple RAIDs - how are they handled?
Moderator split from veeam-backup-replication-f2/managed-har ... 96192.html
Hello,
Is it possible to know how does this ISO handle when there are several raid volume ?
On my customer, I have 2x 180TB of data on 1 server and I can see when I use it, only 1 path with 360TB is presented as backup repository on Veeam.
Before I used SOBR with 2x180TB.
Now, I have a SOBR with 1 x 360TB but I would like to know how does Veeam handle data placement here ? Thanks

Hello,
the Hardened Repository ISO installer creates one linear logical volume of all the data volumes.
Data is placed "from the beginning to the end". No striping.
Best regards
Hannes

That means all datas are written to 1st hardware volume raid and then on the second one ?

correct. and if you lose one RAID, then one might even be able to recover some data of the working RAID. I never tried that, but I heard it's possible.

From my experience where two RAID arrays were used it creates a LVM volume over both of them.

Re: [VHRISO] multiple RAIDs - how are they handled?
this is also correct, yes. It just creates one logical volume of all non-operating system volumes. The software doesn't check whether it's a RAID or single disk, it just puts everything together into one volume.

Hannes,
does this filter out things like USB sticks? What kind of disks are automatically used?
