Need help with Backup Proxies
Hi guys,
I m a bit confused with backup proxies. I watched some webinar and read the documentation, but still not clear to me.
On my site I have an Esx with local storage and an physical server for the backups.
I configured my Backup server as backup proxy and selected "automatic selection"
When I look the report, I have processing rate 9 MB/s Bottleneck Target
I would to know if my configuration is ok or need to be optimized
thanks

Re: Need help with Backup Proxies
Bottleneck target means that the issue is on the repository side, not the proxy. What is your repository type (how the storage is added to Veeam B&R) and what it is like? What backup method do you use (forward/forever/reverse), what Veeam B&R version are you at?

Re: Need help with Backup Proxies
My Veeam B&R server is a Windows 2008R2 with Veeam version 8.0.0.2021
The storage is local to the server.
The type of my repository is Windows
My backup mode is reverse incremental
So for this configuration the proxy is ok?

Re: Need help with Backup Proxies
So you have both source and target data movers running on the same backup server. Does it meet the combined system requirements for the backup server, proxy and repository? Could you please set up an additional virtual proxy on your host and check performance?

For the backup server, proxy and repository the combined systeme requirements is ok
But recently we added Wan accerelator on this server, and maybe its a bit too much for it.
I created a new proxy which is a virtual machine on my Esx and I selected "Virtual appliace" like transport mode
On my job its better to let "Automatic selection" for backup proxy or I choose my new proxy?

Re: Need help with Backup Proxies
Automatic selection will make your job choose the best available proxy in automatic fashion. If you want for the job to use specific proxy, feel free to set it manually. Thanks.

Re: Need help with Backup Proxies
So I did this tests:
My job1 with the new proxy in"automatic selection" = same result processing rate 7 MB/s, and bottleneck:Target
My job1 with the new proxy like only proxy = same result processing rate 7 MB/s, and bottleneck:Target
I did a new job with some Vms of my Job1 with the same parameters, and I obtain Processing rate 22 MB/s and bottleneck Network
The only difference between this 2 jobs is one run at night and the other this morning.
I don't understand the difference of process rate.
Any idea?

Re: Need help with Backup Proxies
Was the initial job the only one that used that target at that time? Is there any other activity that could take IOPS from the storage during the first job making it the bottleneck?

Re: Need help with Backup Proxies
Hello, sorry for my late answer I was out of office.
My job is reverse incremental:
Selection: Some Vms of my Esx
Storage: local to my backup server
Backup Proxy: a Vm
Schedule: Monday to Saturday at 11pm
This server is only for backup, there is just veeam.
But when I look the statistics my network is used at 50% sometime, maybe I have a problem here.

Re: Need help with Backup Proxies
I was asking about the slower job with bottleneck target. For the second one that runs in the morning and reports network as the bottleneck, please check what transport mode is being selected.
