Need to SNMP query the Veeam server (not send traps from it)

Post by mikeely »

Hi,

Our monitoring system is much better at querying than trap handling and given the extremely limited (job succeeded or failed) traps that get sent out from Veeam even if I were to configure snmptrapd to talk with Veeam the information wouldn't be good enough for us to alert on correctly or with the flexibility we need.

So, I want to go the other way: create a listener on the Veeam server and hit it from our monitors. Presumably there's something Veeam has published in the private enterprises space (1.3.6.1.4.1) that we can use to talk to the services and query health, backups, etc. but I haven't found them.

So who's done this, and how did it work for you?

For the record, I did find Veeam's assignment at IANA:

Code: Select all

31023
  Veeam Software
    Alexey Vasilyev
      Alexey.Vasilyev&veeam.com

As far as I know, Veeam B&R itself does not respond to SNMP queries, just sends SNMP traps to a trap receiver.
