Netapp Scan Schedule

Post by Yanish »

I have a customer where we have set up storage integration with a Netapp.
The customer claims that he can see a lot of storage scans on the netapp end.

How often are scans preformed? Just before a Job? Or also on a scheduled basis?
If on a schedule can this be controlled?

Thanks

Thanks, I see that Storage monitor runs every 10 mins.
Storage Monitor runs in the background. This process detects new snapshots and volumes and performs their rescan with a time interval of 10 minutes.

Is this really Necessary? Is there a way to change the interval so that it won't preform so many scans?

These scans are required to maintain the storage system hierarchy in Veeam B&R up-to-date. You can alter the default rescan period using the SanMonitorTimeout (REG_DWORD) registry value (in seconds) that should be created in the standard Veeam hive (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Backup and Replication).

Hi

I was wondering about this 10 minute schedule as well, each rescan takes approximately 5 minutes in our case(unneccessary volumes are already excluded from rescan). Because we create Netapp snapshots only every two hours, it makes sense to increase this rescan period to lets say 60 minutes in my opinion. Or is that not recommended? Are there any best practices how to schedule this rescan?

thx

You can adjust the timeout to realities of your environment.
