New Backup Copy Job

Post by LandA »

It seems that with V12 you can now schedule a pruning job to start "After this job. If you choose this option, select the job from the drop-down list after which the backup copy job will start."

https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120[*]

I have used this and it works well but I would like to kick off a second similar job after the first copy job completes. It appears that the only thing I can select in the After this job menu is a backup job and not a copy job.

Why are copy jobs excluded from this dropdown?

Hello and Welcome to Veeam R&D Forums!

I think it's not a frequent use case, more often you need to start a copy job right after the primary one is completed. Could you please clarify why you need to chain copy jobs?

Thanks!

I have an organization that has a number of rural sites with limited connectivity. My backups are likely a unique case. Here is the broad strokes of my scenario. 5 physical locations, 1 main site, 4 remote

Step 1 - All 5 sites back up to a local repository in each site.
Step 2 - The 4 remote sites copy their step 1 backup to the main site
Step 3 - The main site copies its backup from step 1 to a remote site

Due to the bandwidth limits, I don't want steps 2 and 3 to happen at the same time and want them to follow one after the other.

Is there a way to call/initiate the copy job from a script that is attached to the previous job as a workaround?

Hello,

Yes, you can enable and sync backup copy manually depending on a specific condition, for example when a previous job is completed. You can query the job session status using this cmdlet.

Thanks!
