Hi,
We have bought 2 physical servers with the following spec
Intel Xeon Silver 4210R 10C 2.40 GHz
96GB memory
8xHD SAS 12G 14TB 7.2K
We are going to use one of the servers as primary backup repository, and the other as a repository for backup-copy-jobs.
We are looking into creating a Raid6 with stripe size should be 256KB or should it be greater ?
We are looking into creating it with ReFs and use block cloning (is block cloning the same as Fast Clone?)
Any other suggestions, or would you do it another way ?
Thanks for reply
/R

Re: New repository server
For me, this looks good. RAM usage for reFS should be 1GB RAM per 1TB Storage. This is good with your design. Raid Stripe Size is on a good size.
Veeams name for Block Cloning is "Fast Clone" and works with reFS (Windows) or XFS Backup Repo (Linux)

Re: New repository server
Hi Andreas, yes, the mentioned settings are typically among the recommended ones (you may search the forums for multiple existing discussions in this regard). Block cloning is the same as Fast Clone, right.

Re: New repository server
Hi,
Thanks for fast reply.
One other question, should I use ReFS with Fast Clone or ReFS with deduplication ?
I guess I have to choose ?
What is recommended ?

Re: New repository server
There's a dedicated thread discussing this but the general recommendation is to not use ReFS with dedupe.
