Nimble Storage
Hi Guys, we are looking to install a nimble storage solution and just wondering how you guys that are running nimble complete your backups.
Unfortunately due to budget limitations we are only installing a single array and will continue to use our veeam backup server with a raid 10 DAS.
We like the advantage of nimble snaps on the array for fast recovery, however we would also like to keep backups on our veeam backup sever repository incase the array fails. I have looked at some of the nimble videos and veeam articles and not getting too far.
So the question is can we utilise and keep nimble snaps on the nimble array but also utilise the local veeam backup repository for backups also that are then written to tape.
Hopefully this makes sense, cheers guys

Re: Nimble Storage
Correct, you can create snapshot-only jobs as well as local backup and backup to tape jobs. Thanks.

Re: Nimble Storage
You can actually specify the backup repository as target for your backups and configure the number of snapshots to keep on the storage itself in a single backup job.

Re: Nimble Storage
That is really neat. So we can have a snapshot retention and backup retention in a single backup job? Also are both snapshot and backup job application aware.
What I would like to do is perhaps snapshot hourly in business hours and keep say 12 snaps then have a daily backup that is written to the veeam repo and keep for 21 days, with a daily copy written to tape.

Re: Nimble Storage
Correct, click add on Secondary Target node of backup job settings and specify number of snapshots that should be stored in addition to general retention.

Re: Nimble Storage
If you want different schedules for the snapshots and backups, you would need separate jobs for them (one hourly snapshot-only job and one daily backup job).lukejf wrote:What I would like to do is perhaps snapshot hourly in business hours and keep say 12 snaps then have a daily backup that is written to the veeam repo and keep for 21 days, with a daily copy written to tape.

Re: Nimble Storage
So... should we rename the topic to "HPE Storage" now?

Re: Nimble Storage
What Veeam license is required for Nimble Storage integration?

Re: Nimble Storage
I think I found the answer in the "Veeam and Nimble Storage Deployment Guide"
B&R Enterprise PLUS is required.
