No Deduplication

Post by pwinterbourne »

Hi All,

I am a bit confused with the deduplication side of Veeam. We have some fairly big jobs (like 4TB in some) and they have multiple vm's in. However, we never get any deduplication ratio in our backups.

I swear we used to in version 6.0 but we don't anymore (we are using version 6.5). I may be wrong (and probably am!!)

The settings are for "optimal" compression.

thanks,

Paul

Paul, do you have inline deduplication check box enabled in the job settings? What do you mean by "never get any deduplication ratio in our backups"? What dedup rate do you see in the job report?

Hi Foggy,

yes we have it checked. We just checked back on some older backups and in 2013 January our jobs were getting 2.0x dedupe and 2.0x compression (or thereabouts). I don't know if its just a reporting issue on the email or we are actually getting no dedupe anymore.

the dedupe ratio in the job report is 0.0x

that is across all four of our backup jobs.

The settings are set for :

inline deduplication
compression level optimal
storage optimization is set to local target

thanks,

Paul

Yes, worth doing. Apart from the fact that it previously showed correct numbers, zero dedupe does not makes much sense to me, since we are talking about original/deduped data size ratio here.
