[Feature Request] Official Restore Point Simulator as part of Veeam Backup Calculator
Hello there,
I'd like to request as part of the Veeam Backup Calculator (https://calculator.veeam.com/vbr/) the feature to display a list of the restore points / backup chains that given job settings will lead to (worst case scenario as well as manual runs with 1x, 7x, etc). Like on the unoffical Restore Point Simulator (https://rps.dewin.me/) that is now deprecated and unfortunately doesn't take into account the recent changes in GFS functionality and retention.
Here is an example from the unofficial RPS of what I'd like to see in the offical calculator (the example uses forward-incremental backup with 14 RPs retention):
Clicking on the simulate button (simulating worst case scenario):
Clicking on simulate button with manual run enabled (simulating first job run):
After clicking on 1x under manual run one time (simulating second job run):
After clicking on 1x a few times more (simulating a few following job runs):
Especially the manual run function is very helpful for understanding what kind of backup chains will be created and when the retention comes in to delete obsolete backup chains (for GFS backups a godsend because those are tricky to foresee and understand).
I hope we will see this feature added in the future.
Thank you for your time.
Best regards,
Nils

do notice that in the latest iteration of https://calculator.veeam.com/vse/ you can click on repositories requirement and drill down in the repositories to get a similar output

If you get to the main https://calculator.veeam.com/ , you will see there is now a VSE calculator at the bottom. This is a more advanced size then the basic one. It is meant to replace all the calculators.
When you add the workloads here, you can go to Result -> repository requirements -> click a repo -> click a worklaod to see the chains
