Dear all,
when backing up VMs over WAN Gateway/Accelerator over slower networks, Veeam makes use of a WAN_Cache folder.
For a successful restore of VMs on the OffSite site, is the Veeam Backup VM, together with its *WAN_Cache* folder necessary for a possible restore? Or only the data on the offsite backup drive are sufficient and we don't need the Cache folder?
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Marek

Re: OffSite Copy - WANCache Folder Needed for Restore?
For Restores in the remote Datacenter, you will need the VBR Server.
But you don't need the "WAN Accelerator VM" and "the cache" for a restore.
The Global Cache on the WAN Accelerator helps you to minimize the network traffic from Source to the target Side in a backup Copy or replication scenario.
The Backup Chain on the offsite Backup drive is a standalone Backup Chain and does not depend on the cache folder.
If you have lost your VBR Server, simply install a new one in the offsite Datacenter and import the Backup Chain. Then you can do your restores from there.

Re: OffSite Copy - WANCache Folder Needed for Restore?
Excellent and straight answer, thank you so much! I asked because I was not sure if we must also transfer the VBR VM to DR site or it is enough just to build a new VBR server and restore from offsite backup chain.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
