I am currently using VEEAm to backup 4 VMs to an onprem local QNAP. (Approx 5tb)
President of the company would like to send backups to a QNAP offsite (his house).
How would one go about sending a copy of backup to an external QNap?
Can a QNAP share be shared over a public IP/ddns?
Thanks

Re: offsite QNAP
Hello,
and welcome to the forums.
I suggest the following configuration
- create a site-to-site VPN connection
- have a Windows machine next to the off-site qnap
- use that Windows machine as gateway for the SMB share (if you use the SMB share directly, then you will run into performance issues if you don't have really much bandwidth. merges of the backup chain will be an issue)
- use a backup copy job to copy the data to the off-site qnap
Best regards,
Hannes

Technically you can, but I would never do that for security reasons. I'm sure you have heard about ransomware...Can a QNAP share be shared over a public IP/ddns?

Thanks Hannes.
What do you mean by use that machine as a gateway?
Do you mean have the share setup on the windows machine and point VEEAM backup repo there?

Re: offsite QNAP
Hello,
The data transmission is performed between Source and Target Data Movers.
Gateway server hosts target Data Mover and can be specified at the level of repository settings when adding SMB share. (look under: Shared Folder - Gateway server)
Thanks!
