Offsite Replication...with Veeam on the target size ?
Hello,
I'd like to set up an offsite replication of VMs thru a WAN but here is the architecture
Source: VMware VMs without Veeam
Target: ESXis with Veeam
Sorry if my question's dumb. Usually, when I set up replications between sites, Veeam is always on the source side.
Is it possible to run replications if the source side doesn't have Veeam ?
Thanks.

Hello Eric,
Yes it is possible, but you should deploy at least one local backup proxy in each site — a source backup proxy in the production site, and a target backup proxy in the remote DR site. The backup repository should be deployed in the production site, closer to the source backup proxy. Please read.
By the way, when planning for offsite replication, consider advanced possibilities to reduce the amount of replication traffic and streamline replica configuration. These include replica seeding, replica mapping, network mapping and re-IP.
Thank you.

The last, but not the least the upcoming release of VB&R will add built-in WAN Acceleration for replication jobs. That should allow you to reduce dramatically amount of data sent through a wire, and speed up the replica process in case of limited bandwidth. Thanks.

Hi guys,
Thanks for your answer.
Do I need a backup repository just to run replications ?
Like I said, the production site doesn't have Veeam so no backup repository. What will it be used for when I run replications ?
Thanks.

Eric,
Backup repository is to store replica metadata. It`s recommended to be located closer to the original VMs, due to replication performance considerations.
We had a topic with the similar issue discussion.
Thanks.
