Oracle Database Backup
Hi all,
I am interested in evaluating Veeam B&R to backup the Oracle database over ASM on physical servers.
What is the best technical approach to do this? Should I first use Oracle RMAN to backup to disk and then use Veeam B&R. Is it possible to directly integrate Veeam B&R with Oracle RMAN?
Is there clear documentation on backing up the Oracle database over ASM with Veeam B & R?
Thanks in advance
Mac

Re: Oracle Database Backup
Hi Mac,
First: Welcome to the forums
Today, RMAN is not yet integrated with Veeam B&R, but we are aware of this need and if it is OK with you I'm going to count this as a vote for the feature request
All our documentation on Oracle backup can be found here: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... tml?ver=95 (VMware) or here https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... tml?ver=95 (Hyper-V)
Cheers
Mike

Re: Oracle Database Backup
Thanks!!!
Appreciate you reply.
I was looking to documentation and I only see backup of archive logs. There's any way perform a full backup of database?
Thanks

Re: Oracle Database Backup
Yes, whenever the image-level backup runs, it will take a full backup of the database. You have to look at this as 2 jobs at once. Image-level backup and then the log backup every X time.
You will notice when you use the Veeam Explorer for Oracle after that, that you will be able to do a database recovery, to a point in time or to a specific transaction

Cool.
Image-level backup is done using Oracle RMAN scripts? How is done?
We are using ASM for datafiles, is it supported?
Thanks

Re: Oracle Database Backup
Hello, currently this is not possible as we don't yet have an RMAN plug-in for Solaris. Thanks!
