Oracle Veeam explorer - optimising the restore of a single database on a muli Oracle Database node?

Post by ARycroft »

Hi,

Please can you advise us? We are trying to restore a single Oracle database using Veeam explorer to a node with multiple databases installed on it. Veeam explorer scans through all the logs of all the databases before it will start its restore. We are told this is to preserve the DB integrity, but it does take a very very long time, and in our case makes a restore impossible. We have 5TB of log files across multiple databases. Is there a way to Veeam explorer to only scan the specified databases log files?

We tried increasing the VBR timeout value, but it is still too small.

Other backup products do not behave in this manner when restoring a database.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Hello,
can you maybe provide the support case number where the "increase timeout" recommendation probably comes from?

Then we can check whether it's expected behavior or something else.

Best regards,
Hannes

Hello,

Are you using AAIP or RMAN? How many channels is configured? Does your data backup come from slow dedup appliance?
I didn't notice this kind of behavior with RMAN on large RAC cluster.

Hello,

@ARycroft Could you please elaborate a bit more on it:

What do you mean by scanning all the logs and which specific operation is the slowest one in the restore process and how did you come to this conclusion?

If you have a support case ID, please share it as Hannes requested.

Thanks!

Yes,

When we tried to restore Veeam explorer with Veeam explorer to the new ASM devices for the restored Oracle database. It scanned the entire 5TB ASM Oracle database environment. The log number is 06051284.

We have an Oracle DBA who is very familiar with Oracle and he examined the log files and reported on Oracles behaviour.

Hi Andrew,

I think that this assumption must be validated by our engineers, I'll ask the support management to provide the results of RCA.

Thanks!
