Permanent Failover

Hi All.

1 - Is it possible to totally change the site "role" using Permanent Failover? Ex: I perform a Permanent Failover because I had a physical issue in my Production Site (like a fire, hurricane, or something like that) and this site will not be available anymore. How can I "promote" my DR site to Production site?
2 - Is it possible to configure Failback operation to turn on virtual machines in Production site?
3 - Is it possible to configure an reverse protection when I failover a VM to DR site? I'd like to protect my replica during failover state

Hi Valter,
1. Permanent Failover in Veeam B&R is exactly what allows you to permanently switch to a VM replica and use it as the original VM.
2. Unless you performed permanent failover, you can failback to the original VM to resume its operation.
3. You can create a replication job in the opposite direction to protect the replica VM while it is running.

What if Veeam is located at the Production site when the physical issue happens at the Production Site? How does one start a Failover?

In this case failover via Veeam B&R console is not available unless you quickly fire up the new instance and import configuration there.

Basically, we recommend to deploy VBR server on DR site so that you can easily trigger failover in case of disaster on production site.

How can I "promote" my DR site to Production site?

@valteresjunior You may also take a look at Veeam Availability Orchestrator, it extends the functionality of DR processes orchestration including recovery of an entire site.

Hi All.

After perform a Permanent Failover, VM Replica is removed from the list of replicas. So:
1. How I'll start a Failback process, if I don't have more VM replicas?
2. Permanente Failover is a definitive state, that means I cannot revert them?
3. My VM Replica need to be in Failover state (never in Permanent Failover) to start a Failover process?

Right, once you perform permanent failover, you cannot failback.
