Hi, I would appreciate if someone advise pls as i cannot find clear answer in Veeam documentation on combination of Veeam roles on the same server.
Our company has a requirement to expand existing Veeam v10 environment (currently all roles hosted on Windows based servers) by deploying new proxy server for remote site utilising local disks. Due to licensing cost new server will be Oracle Linux. From other similar post i understand if linux hardened repository was to be used, the server would have to be dedicated for this role, however if regular repository on the physical linux was considered (not requiring hardening), would it be possible to deploy on this server both proxy and repository roles?

Re: Physical Linux with Proxy and Repository roles on the same server
Hello Tomas
Welcome to the forum.
Correct, a hardened repo cannot have any other role in V11/V11a.
This changes in our upcoming version V12. NDB proxy (network mode) will be allowed on a hardened repository because it doesn‘t require root permission.
A regular linux server can use all linux supported roles in V11/V12.
Best,
Fabian

Why not a free linux distribution like Ubuntu if we talk about license costs?Due to licensing cost new server will be Oracle Linux.

Re: Physical Linux with Proxy and Repository roles on the same server
Reason for Oracle Linux as a choice is that company has Oracle subscription Support.
One more question regarding Veeam infrastructure roles on Linux OS.
From documentation am i correct in understanding following limitations ?
Linux Veeam Proxy server cannot have "vPowerNFS" (instant Recovery - VM restore feature) nor "Mount" ( VM file or replication restore feature) nor "Guest Interaction Proxy" (Application aware processing,Guest file indexing, Transaction log processing) roles.
Thanks for help in this

Hi Tomas
Thanks for explaining the license requirement.
Correct. For this roles a windows machine is still required.
