Plugin for Enterprise Applications Update

Post by rbienvault » 1 person likes this post

Hello,

We are having more and more plugin deployed and it is getting complicated to get them updated (and we cannot update them all at once, because each deployment or group of deployment have a specific schedule for maintenance).

It would be nice to have a view like the agents for the Enterpris Apps plugins to :
  • Plugin list with versions
  • which needs to be update
  • Update / Upgrade them
  • Remove the plugin if necessary
  • Health of the plugin (for example, a plugin that did not send anything over the last 24h(parameter to be setted to the RPO of the asset) is unhealthy)
It would really ease our plugin management,
Thank you !

Hello Romain, yes this is something we're planning (and actually already started working on) now that we see nice adoption of these plug-ins. The end goal is to make their management identical to how Veeam Backup & Replication manages Windows/Linux/Mac agents.

Your feedback is actually super timely, because it helps us to prioritize in what order to deliver missing management functionality. In fact, we had some arguments about this internally just last week! Sounds like the biggest issue is keeping plug-ins up-to-date, correct? Followed by some basic monitoring: report an issue if a backup server did not receive anything from the plug-in in the last X hours.

Thanks!

Hello,

@rbienvault Thanks for the feedback! As far as I understand, the two first requests can be covered by automatic upgrade of plug-ins to the most recent version, right? Such a logic would eliminate the need to see a list of non-upgraded plug-ins and its versions. Speaking about health of the plug-in, it might be achieved by providing statistics for log backups, for example if RPO for log backups is violated, the warning or error message will be shown.

Thanks!

Hello,

Yes that's right, our main issues are to manage the plugin life over time (we have at the moment 35 hana plugin deployed and we are targeting 70 by beginning of 2022 and more to come), managing them centrally will ease our work.

Also, your suggestion with the RPO violation is perfect in my opinion.
We have some issues with the algorithm that is used to encrypt the password, when there is a FS addition, the backup are no longer working and each time, we had no clue that happened.

Thank you,
If you need any feedback, do not hesitate :)
