Preparing for VBR Linux
We are watching and waiting for VBR on Linux and were wondering if there would be a benefit to
moving entirely to Postgres in anticipation of the release of VBR on Linux. We are preparing to move
to 12.3 now that the WSH checks are implemented to avoid issues but wondered if now might be
the time to just go all-in with Postgres.

It will likely be a requirement to be on PostgreSQL before you can migrate configuration indeed.
And yes, it *is* the time to go all in with PostgreSQL regardless of VBR on Linux.

Re: Preparing for VBR Linux
Hello,
what about "However, since v12 is the first version to support PostgreSQL, it is still recommended to use Microsoft SQL Server when you backup more than 5000 VMs."
Is this no longer valid?

Re: Preparing for VBR Linux
This is probably related to the actual 12.0 release back in 2023. We've done many optimizations since then, so let us check with Performance QA team if it's time to bump this to 10000.

Re: Preparing for VBR Linux
Thanks Gostev. Can you tell us if this is still the method for migration or is there another way
now that the installer is inserting a Postgres instance by default?

Yes, a better migration would be nice, especially since you have to do both Enterprise Manager and Config Database via two different methods, both have to use the same database and for one of the two there is no way back!

Re: Preparing for VBR Linux
@tgx yes. There may also be more official documentation in the Help Center (I didn't check).
@mkreitzer I would agree with you if this needed to be done monthly. But since not, it's good enough for a once in a lifetime operation.

@tgx: When I wanted to migrate to PostgresSQL David from Veeam send me this link to the user guide: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120. That worked for me.

Re: Preparing for VBR Linux
So is there a timeline yet for VONE. Or is that still requiring MS SQL? Would much prefer all three VBR, VEM and VONE were using the same SQL platform, rather two on PostgreSQL and one still stuck on MS SQL.

Re: Preparing for VBR Linux
This is the VBR topic/forum Scott, please post in the VONE forum so its PMs can see your query. Although I bet you're not the first to have this question and there's likely an existing discussion or two about this already
