Question about antivirus integration requirements for Secure Restore and SureBackup

Post by rin »

Hi Team,

I would like to better understand how Veeam integrates with third-party antivirus products for Secure Restore and SureBackup.

According to the documentation, antivirus software must support a command-line interface (CLI). I also reviewed the AntivirusInfos.xml examples and noticed that the integration appears to be based on parameters such as ExecutableFilePath and CommandLineParameters.

Based on this information, my current understanding is that Veeam executes the antivirus CLI defined in AntivirusInfos.xml and provides the location of the mounted restore data to the antivirus product for scanning.

Is this understanding correct?

I am not looking for implementation details or proprietary information. Rather, I would like to understand what capabilities an antivirus product must provide in order to integrate with Secure Restore and SureBackup.

Best Regards,
Rin

i Rin,

Yes, correct.

You can either use Veeam Threat Hunter or your own malware/antivirus tool. If you use your own tool, it must:
- support command-line (on-demand) scanning, and
- be installed on the Mount Server.

During Secure Restore, Veeam mounts the backup on the mount server and uses the XML file to trigger an antivirus scan of the mounted content. We provide documentation on how the XML file has to look in our Help Center.
