Hi guys,
I want to implement forward incremental backup chain with synthetic full on sunday and the option to transform previous backup chains into rollbacks (w/ 35 restore points). But I have a little question about the conversion of chains.
My first backup will be an active full VBK then my 6 next backups will be VIBs. The next one will be a synthetic full VBK, at this time I understand that all my previous VIBs will be converted into VRBs and my next backup until the next synthetic full will be VIBs.
My question is about the next synthetic full. If I have 35 restore points, after the next synthetic full, what's happen to previous synthetic full in my chain? I want to know if with this backup method I need to conserve just one or more synthetic full on disk?
Thanks a lot,

Re: Question about forward incremental & reverse
You`ll have only one Synthetic Full. Don`t forget to make active fulls from time to time in a case you are not using surebackup job.
Also, have you considered using Forever Forward Incremental Backup method?
Thanks.

Re: Question about forward incremental & reverse
Why do I need to schedule active full sometime? I can't trust synthetic fulls?

Re: Question about forward incremental & reverse
Adrien,
You can rely on it if you are using Surebackup job for recoverability testing.
If for some reason you are not using it, it`s recommended to make an active full backup once in 1-2 months. This topic contains a lot of relevant info. Please review.
Thank you!
P.S. Best practices are described here.
