[V13] Question regarding repositories on Hardened Repository Server ...

Post by Didi7 »

Hi everybody,

today I integrated the first batch of physical Hardened Repository Servers into the new v13 Appliance. I would like to start with some backups in each location and use test repositories on each Hardened Repository Server to get some insights how things are working and to get details about the amount of disk space necessary for each location, when a full backup is done for each VM. All backups created are protected for at least 7 days.

If I am finished with my tests, I would like to remove those backups instantly. Is this possible, e.g. by removing the test repository or do we need to wait 7 days here as well before the deletion of test repositories is possible?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Regards,
Didi7

Hi Didi,

Veeam sets the Linux file system flag “i” (immutable flag) for backup files and directories. This flag prevents any changes or deletions to the data during the defined immutability period. Only root can remove this flag by removing the flags via the file system --> however, this is not directly available on the V13 appliance (it may need to be activated via the TUI and approved by the Veeamso user, but i never tried and don't know if it works, but maybe it would be a way). But that's not a nice way to do it. I would wait the 7 days and then delete the files; that should cause the least problems in retrospect.

Thanks for the hints. I decided to create test-repositories (not hardened repositories) on the same data location beneath the hardened repositories for testing purposes.

As soon as I am familiar with the way how things work, I may switch those test repositories to hardened test repositories, though it's not really necessary and this might be the solution in our environment.

At least it is possible to create standard (not immutable) repositories on a hardened repository server.

Later, as soon as tests are done, I will switch production backups to the hardened repositories.
