Question regarding Veeam plugin for RMAN and retention
Hello experts,
I have installed and configured Veeam plugin for Oracle RMAN on a server. I am running a scheduled backup from RMAN (daily).
This just came to my attention, Veeam will not be able to automatically remove old restore points for this RMAN job. Right?
In this case, how can we delete old restore points? Do we manually go to the repository (e.g: D:\OracleBackups) and manually select and delete all the .vab files for a selected date?
For example, I am running a daily backup. On monday I have 5 .vab files created, on tuesday I have 5 .vab files created, on wednesday I have 5 .vab files created, etc.
I just go and select the 5 .vab files that have their "date modified" as monday and just shift+delete?
Appreciate your feedback and thanks in advance.
Have a nice day.

Re: Question regarding Veeam plugin for RMAN and retention
Hello,
you are correct. Today the retention handling is done by the RMAN admin.
The way you delete is up to the RMAN admin. It could be your way or also directly managed by the RMAN script.
Best regards,
Hannes

Hello,
"the retention handling is done by the RMAN admin" . Is it true for the Veeam v10?
Thanks
Jan

For RMAN retention configuration, you can use these options > Configuring Retention Policy

Re: Question regarding Veeam plugin for RMAN and retention
Hello,
in general, nothing changed with V10 for the RMAN plugin retention.
But in V10 the Veeam backup administrator can configure a backup copy job and set its own retention there. So even if the RMAN admin deletes files / reduces retention, he cannot delete the copy.
Best regards,
Hannes
