Recommendations for a distributed file system software

Post by el_nauq »

Hello,

I am new to Veeam and we are looking for a recommendation for a software to distribute and sync files from one site to another.

Currently, we are using Microsoft DFS-R but are having some issues with it such as files not syncing correctly, unexpected replication stops, connection dropping intermittently, etc.

I did a search on the forums to see if Veeam had anything like that but did not see anything specific.

Thanks!

Hi, David. You should be using our Backup Copy jobs for this. Thanks!

Gostev,

Thanks for your input. Can you set the time for a sync on the backup copy jobs to do every 15 minutes?

Yes, synchronization interval can be set to 15 minutes, however this does not make sense if the source backup job runs less often (there will be nothing to sync each 15 minutes). What is the reasoning behind such sync?

Well, we are currently looking for a file replication software for our job sites. We replicate files to a job site and then we have users working on those files at the site as well.

Once changes have been made, they synchronize back to our HQ with changes made from the user at the job site and to keep files up to date.

Let me know if you need more clarification guys.

Well, Veeam B&R does not perform general files synchronization.

David,
seems like you are talking about file sync services of production file servers, more than replicating Veeam backup files, is it correct? Also, note that syncing Veeam files can be problematic with software solutions, as they generally work at the file level so any small changes of the file means replicating entirely the file from scratch, and with files well over the TB size this can be a problem.
